Grenache Santa Barbara County

Alta Mesa Vineyard is located on Highway 33 and provides the base for this powerhouse of a wine, which complements small amounts of fruit from Larner and Kimsey Vineyard. However, this is not a pure Grenache either, as Mourvèdre and Syrah provide the structural part and the color. Just 35 percent of all the grapes were destemmed. This is something that is rarely seen in Europe, but seems to be the rule here at Andremily and also at Sine Qua Non. This results in powerful wines with a certain twist, which combine structure, body and mellowness to create a powerfully pleasurable drop. Today, black berry aromas, liquorice, pepper, chocolate and smoke still dominate the nose. As it matures, the berry aroma will dominate, followed by liquorice. Its texture will also change, the ripe tannins will become a sweet substance lining the palate and the unbridled power will turn into balance. Time is the key!
