We have known and loved the wines of Marie Thérèse Chappaz, the grande dame of Valais wine, for many years. The first vintage we were allowed to taste was the 1994 and I still have a bottle of it. Marie Thérèse is a very accomplished and self-critical winemaker who sets the highest standards. It goes without saying that she cultivates her wines biodynamically and uses sulphur with care, bottling her different terroirs separately in order to provide us with honest, straightforward and multi-layered wines that are simply the best Mother Nature can give us.
Something great began when Shadia came home to run the Cave des Champs together with her father Claudy. In 2020, she took over the business, making Clavien greener at heart, more sustainable in the vineyard and the wines even more precise, even clearer, simply even better! Rarely have we had such energetic wines from Valais in our glass, vital, unique wines made from local varieties. We opted for straightforward beauties made from Savagnin Blanc, known here as Païen, and Petit Arvine. And for the powerful yet elegant red counterparts from Syrah and the "Pinot of the Canton of Valais", Shadia Clavien's favorite, Cornalin. Now it's up to you to take the next step, try something new and be part of a young generation redefining tradition!
