Juliénas En Bessay

Gamay, and with it an entire region, disappeared for many years from the shelves of well-assorted wine shops and from the wine lists of oenophile restaurateurs, not entirely without justification, as quantity was more important to Beaujolais winegrowers than quality. This is quite different here at Mont Bessay, where the aim was to become THE address for Gamay wines. The grapes - around 50 percent of which were destemmed - spent almost three weeks in concrete tanks, where the best, finest tannins and a sparkling color were carefully extracted before the wine was transferred to used wooden barrels to mature for two winters. Terroir is at the heart of the wine, as unadorned as possible, so that the wonderful raspberry and Tarocco orange aromas can be admired in all their glory. Powerful, yet elegant, with silky tannins and a juicy, wonderfully pithy and ultra-long finish, this Juliénas also impresses on the palate. Here at Mont Bessay, there are still some breathtaking wines to come.
