Mercurey Rouge 1er Cru Les Vellées

Vieilles Vignes, that's right! The vines that provide the fruit for this divine Burgundy were planted in the 1980s. There is no question that this is one of the best sites in the whole of Mercurey. In combination with the old vines, the will to make a great wine and the God-given talent of the Bautistas, Les Vellées is a grant for a great wine.

Its bouquet has that noble, restrained touch that only great wines display, which the connoisseur must engage with in order to fathom them. Red berry aromas combine magically with a hint of rose, underpinned by a fragrance reminiscent of a walk in the woods, a walk in a spruce forest. Black chocolate notes and spices from the bakery round everything off and give the bouquet something heavy. Medium-bodied, but with good density and velvety tannins, the wine moves elegantly and with energy through the palate. The wine will require some patience, but will reward you royally.
