Picconero IGT

Lia Tolaini and Luca d'Attoma (consultant oenologist, also responsible for the juices at Tua Rita and formerly at Le Macchiole) decided to bottle the Picconero as a pure Merlot. Well done, you two! Well, Luca has a lot of experience when it comes to single-varietal Merlots. Well, his two most important ones - Messorio and Redigaffi - grow near the coast, but Castelnuovo Berardenga (where Tolaini is at home) should actually be even more suitable for growing a great Merlot, as it is on average 5 degrees Celsius cooler here in summer. So, enough theory, now to the wine: it smells wonderful, dark berry, spicy and unimaginably deep. Wow! It spreads out full-bodied on the palate, shows an elegant, beautiful structure and ends in a brilliant finish. This is a wine with class, a Massetto hunter!
