When we had the Bourgogne Rouge in our glass, we thought we were already in the Volnay appellation. A good start, I would say. Then, when the Volnay Villages came into our glass, there was a clear difference. And with each new Volnay, Thierry increased the complexity and finesse of the wine, which clearly culminates in the Clos des Chênes. This wine is unbelievably clear and pure, profound and so extraordinarily neat, sheer madness. Its fragrance is extremely dominated by ripe dark cherry aromas at one point, which are perhaps completely overlaid by flowers and peonies in the next second, but only to make way for Tarocco orange scents. Wow, this could be a party! Its physique can be described as athletic, with plenty of muscle, but wonderfully wrapped in a silky structure. Heavenly, this texture, or rather: heavenly, this wine!
