Mercurey Blanc 1er Cru Les Vellées

Generally speaking, powerful wines grow in Mercurey, and the whites also have a certain density here. But when it's done right - and Tupinier-Bautista does it right - the result is wines with personality, wines that have rough edges and are finely crafted. Like Les Vellées, my personal favorite in the line-up. It smells so good to me that it's not easy for me to put the glass down again and make time for something else. Really!

The fragrance combines aromas of white flowers with freshly grated lime peel. In the next circles, bread aromas work their way into focus, underpinned by a hint of nutmeg. The wine is just as irresistible on the palate, which it lashes out with silk. The texture is a great, lively interplay, with a racy acidity that gives the wine an unimaginably long, mineral finish. Hard to believe, but this is "only" a Mercuery! And yes, give the wine some more time, it will thank you for it.
