Just a week ago, Werner Stucky paid us a brief visit. It's always great to see Werner. A great guy who has encouraged at least as many Swiss winemakers to make better wines and in this respect is partly responsible for bringing Swiss wine quality to where it is today, like Roger Federer inspired the Swiss youth to play tennis. At least! For me, his wines are always among the best that our sunny Swiss region has to offer. The Conte is his "cavallo di battaglia", a wine that always needs a little more time to polish itself off. But once it is "out of the bathroom", it is one of the finest Merlot and Cabernet wines Switzerland has to offer. Tobacco, pepper and dark berry aromas alternate. It flows powerfully into the palate and has a good structure that shapes it and gives it length. The finish is wonderfully juicy.
