Gigondas Le Regard Loin

Le Regard Loin is better than the sum of its parts. Joe Czerwinskis, who describes the Rhône wines for Parker, sums up this new wine beautifully. After ageing in used wooden barrels, Julien marries the best barrels of his five single-vineyard wines in a ceramic vessel made of sandstone. This ceramic vessel, made by hand in Switzerland, is denser than wood but less dense than chrome steel, so that the wine matures more slowly than in wood but with a neutral aroma. The result is an irresistible wine that serves us the pure and clear aromas of the south on a platter, as if you were sitting under a plane tree in Provence enjoying the surrounding air in deep breaths. This interplay of small ripe berries and the herbal scent of Provence is divine. Elegant yet powerful on the palate, the wine packs its ripe, silky tannins with style into an irresistibly balanced, juicy body. A brilliant wine!
