San Casciano near Bagni is more Lazio and Umbria than Tuscany, both geologically and climatically. And yet the Sangiovese feels at home there - you will see what I mean once you have this great wine in your glass. Facing northwest at an altitude of around 515 meters, the four different Sangiovese clones (Massale selection) are rooted in soils rich in clay and limestone. Regional thermal springs determine the climate and protect against frost and hail.
The wine has a wonderful aroma of ripe strawberries and a hint of orange. A delicate herbal scent mingles with the fruity notes and adds another dimension. Power? Yes, but also a firm structure, i.e. tannins of the very best quality - because they have not been extracted for too long, the light color and brick-red rim already indicate a short and careful maceration. And on the finish, the fruit sweetness wraps everything up beautifully - someone clearly knows their craft here. This is exactly how Sangiovese should be, this is exactly how it gives pleasure, BIG pleasure. I am sure that this wine will give all Sangiovese lovers who can detach themselves from the big, famous names at least as much pleasure as the stars just mentioned. And at extremely attractive conditions, not to mention.
