Il Pozzone IGT Toscana

2020

Traubensorten Sangiovese
Trinktemperatur 16° - 18°

Clay predominates in the upper part of the vineyard and sand in the lower part, although this is interspersed with loam and thus retains moisture even in the rather dry soil, promising homogeneous growth even in summer. If you dig deeper, you will find many shell fragments, i.e. fossilized natural shells, which are an important source of minerals. The nearby Monte Cetona casts its protective shadow over the vineyard in the afternoon during the summer months. How practical. The vineyard was planted with a south-easterly orientation back in the mid-1970s. Back then, it was traditional to plant a few Malvasia and Trebbiano vines among the Sangiovese, not so much to make wine from their fruit, but rather to provide the workers with sugar, i.e. energy, during the tough harvest. Today, a wine is made from the white grapes, Risveglio, but that is another story.

The bouquet of this Sangiovese is so much more floral, so much more volatile than that of the Bossolo, that it is easy to be amazed. Red berries can of course also be smelled in the Pozzone, but violets, herbs and a clear mineral vein give this perfume an incredible depth. The wine fills the palate playfully, remains elegant at all times, shows its sensational tannins, its fine acidity and, like its brother, ends wonderfully sweet - this sweetness comes from the extra of the wine and not from sugar, simply so that we understand each other correctly here, the wine is not sweet. It packs an insane melt and its finish is super juicy! Kudos!
