Far too rarely do we make it to the Pretzhof, a mountain farm located high above Sterzing. At the Pretzhof, everything revolves around regional products. The farm also has a wonderful, rustic restaurant where hearty dishes are served completely unadorned. The wines are an exception: the Mairs are international, but deeply rooted in South Tyrol. Here we enjoy comparing different South Tyrolean wines with each other, including Niedrist's Lagrein, of course. This wine is usually the clear winner. It smells so wonderfully of liquorice, dark berries and a hint of cinnamon. Simply great. Its body is athletic, muscle-bound, and its structure is silky and of the very best quality. A great wine that is a hell of a lot of fun. Whether with pasta, roast meat, game or simply a cold dish. This wine always goes well! Give it a try!
