Nebbiolo for the backbone, the seriousness and Barbera for the body, the attractiveness. This could have been Elio's initial idea when he first blended these two varieties. Of course, he was not the first to create such a cuvée. There were and are countless of them in Piedmont. But there are not many, if any, at this level of quality as here at Altare. Altare, formerly Elio and now his daughter Silvia, are tireless creators and are not satisfied with anything average - only the best is good enough for them. Somewhat dominated by Barbera, at least now in its youth, although it only makes up 40% of the wine, La Villa is quite something. The wine smells of ripe, black cherries and subtle hints of leather, perhaps also a little light tobacco. On the palate, the wine packs a powerful punch, the Barbera wraps up the structure of the Nebbiolo in a wonderful way. A fantastic wine with two hearts in its chest!
