Mostly Grenache, a lot of Petite Sirah, some Syrah, a "splash" of Mourvèdre and a hint of Petit Manseng combine to make the perfect wine! Manfred likes "whole clusters", here it's a good third; what he likes less is new wood, which is why it's barely more than 20 percent and most of the wine was in concrete - shh! ... don't tell anyone, because most people have no idea how much Manfred's ideals have changed for the better in recent years. His son August has been at his side for a few years now and is right in the middle of things and not just there when great things like this wine are created. The cherry fruit of the wine is beguiling, but by no means everything the bouquet has to offer. Spices, tar, black tea, blueberries and even some cocoa alternate and give the perfume depth. The Cumulus is as fine as silk on the palate and builds up a lot of pressure, but remains lively and shows enormous energy, moving light-footedly and elegantly. A magical wine that, like all Krankls wines, is a delight when young, but becomes an unimaginable experience when mature. Patience!
