It is not unusual to make great wines in California without owning the vineyard. In the beginning, it was no different with Summa Vineyard, but today Thomas owns the vineyard and invested a lot of time and almost as much money immediately after the purchase to trim the vines even more for quality - I realize with horror that the purchase was a good ten years ago ... how time flies.
It's wonderful how the Summa smells of raspberries. Divine! Dried violets are combined with an extremely sophisticated and profound spiciness that is fascinating in its interplay with the raspberry fragrance. But that is by no means all this wine has to offer. Cherry aromas add depth and complexity. This cherry fruit also fills the palate before the wine's enormous density and power become apparent. Structure? Yes, and what a structure! Summa brings together everything that the Sonoma Coast has to offer, what a great terroir this corner of California is. In this case paired with the skill of a connoisseur!
