It is a pity that Thierry only owns a very small parcel in Saussilles, a rather cool site directly adjacent to Beaune. However, this is still planted with very old vines. Old vines are known to have deep roots and usually bear very little fruit, which they then playfully bring to full ripeness and pack over spring, summer and fall with the best aromas you can imagine. At first, this is expressed in a diverse aroma. Cherries, blackcurrants, game, tart dark chocolate aromas, spices and undergrowth notes vie for pole position. Concentrated and multi-layered, surrounded by the finest tannins and carried by a ripe, simply wonderful acidity, this Burgundy fires on all cylinders at the same time. Nevertheless, the wine finishes wonderfully elegant, juicy and precise. I could get used to something like this. If only we had more of them!
