Two wonderful people, up for any kind of mischief but with both feet firmly on the ground, simple farmers, lovable and modest, Dayna and Chris Hammell. Chris has been the vineyard manager of Bien Nacido and Solomon Hills for many years, the two most historic vineyards in Santa Maria, fruit suppliers for talented wine makers who press great wines from them, including Manfred Krankl in his early days - today the Krankls only press grapes that they grow themselves. Chris is a good friend of Manfred Krankl and always keeps an eye on his vineyards, just as Manfred sometimes gives Chris a tip for the cellar. Blackberries, Santa Maria BBQ notes, black olive tapenade and fine Tellicherry pepper aromas sweep through the nose. The same aromas play out powerfully on the palate. The tannins frame and support the wine, giving it length. Juicy, elegant despite its power, the wine flows down the throat and is a lot of fun. This is a sure value if you are looking for a suitable companion to a great steak!
