Les Arboises comes from the Brézé vineyard, perhaps the best vineyard in the Saumur appellation. The vineyard was planted by Romain's father in 1957 and is a monopole site, similar to the Clos de Tard in Burgundy. Just as good, or better, certainly different, but fortunately not as absurdly expensive as that one. A killer wine that combines everything I expect from a Cabernet Franc, i.e. everything a Cabernet Franc is capable of giving, here in Saumur, far in the west of France. Its aromas are wonderfully clear, transparent and harmonious. Basler-Langstiel cherries combine with Mieze-Schindler strawberries and the scent of a colorful bouquet of kitchen herbs. The mouthfeel of the wine is equally ingenious, at times light as a feather, fleeting, transparent, then again dense and filling the palate, always clear, precise and elegant, ending juicy with a finish that lasts many seconds. Wow, this is great fun!
