Châteauneuf-du-Pape blanc

Why is it that more wine lovers are not aware that white Châteauneuf-du-Pape are great wines, especially that of the Maurel brothers. In its youth, it is an excellent accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes and with a few years of bottle ageing, it pairs extremely well with poultry or just white meat in general. Oh yes, before I forget, the whites from the Avignon region are surprisingly lively wines. Even if it may sound contradictory, they combine power and a certain lightness in a fascinating way. It's wonderful how the wine smells! Quinces, apricots and here and there a veil of lime peel aromas covers everything, but is gone again in an instant and replaced by a fresh gooseberry scent. The wine is irresistible on the palate, first dense, then fresh, juicy and elegant towards the end. This is one hell of a seductive white Châteauneuf-du-Pape!
