Laurent Charvin, at home in the north of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, cultivates an incredibly old vineyard on mostly sandy soils that are only dotted with galets roulés here and there, but often - and this is a great advantage here in the south - contain a fine layer of clay under the sand, which allows the vines to survive the hot summer without stress. These are just two of the many special features that characterize Charvin and its wines. This white Côtes-du-Rhône made from local varieties, for example, is an unexpectedly fresh and pointed wine that provides entertainment at an extremely high level. Yellow aromas such as straw flowers and hay, but also spicy notes such as aniseed (or is it fennel seed?) dominate the nose. The wine takes the palate with great verve, is exceptionally juicy, indeed heavenly mineral, but without feeling thick and heavy for even the briefest moment. This little white wine is really great!
