I was firmly convinced that the Mosel can only do fine dry and sweet wines really well. Only this Grosse Gewächs from the Thanisch ladies convinced me that it is not the terroir, but rather the winemaker, who can make a great dry wine on the Moselle that I also enjoy. And anyone who knows me knows that my standards are anything but low! Aromas of golden mirabelle plums and fully ripe peaches not only waft out of the glass and caress the nose, no, because exactly the same aromas also coat the palate, building up enormous pressure and making the wine appear baroque and soft at first, before its acidity, perfectly worked in by Mother Nature, gives the wine contours of the highest resolution. The wine skilfully flexes its muscles before taking its proverbial hat off in an incomparably intense, yet playful, finely mineral and fabulously juicy finish! Ingenious!
