Riesling Spätlese (dry) Kallstadter Saumagen

In theory, I could never have imagined liking 2020 better than 2018, until I had the 2020 Spätlese in my glass and completely fell for it! It smells super neat, just as I would expect from an unadorned, classic Riesling, of mirabelle plums, then exotic fruits, perhaps even guavas. These are aromas of ripe fruit, by the way! On the palate, the wine is athletic, full of energy and extremely charming, just like I am. Ok, ok, maybe I don't have all these qualities, but I do have energy and charm. Back to the wine. The Spätlese has muscle, but is by no means voluptuous, it is contoured and extremely pretty, even seductive. Its finish is spicy and wonderfully mineral, almost crisp. The saliva flows and the desire for another sip is overwhelming. There is a hell of a lot of pleasure in this wine.
