Riesling Spätlese (dry) Kallstadter Saumagen «R»

At Koehler-Ruprecht, R stands for Reserve. These wines are only stored a little longer in old barrels, but never as much longer as the vintage would have us believe. No, they are stored for a long time in the bottle, giving us the pleasure of a slightly more mature wine as soon as it reaches us! Many people would probably agree with me when I say that many of these R wines would never be as old as they are today if they were sold after just two years. They would be wiped out much sooner! Koehler-Ruprecht should be thanked for not tempting us to drink a wine that is far too young. Certainly, we should exercise a little restraint even now, but for me, today - June 23, 2022 - is the end of it, today I simply have to open this wine, which I was able to taste for the last time at the winery. For me, 2018 is one of THE Palatinate Riesling vintages par excellence. I mean, my favorite table wine, the Kabinett from the same year (I think you'll agree) is a cracker of a wine. So we can look forward to this reserve made from grapes that have been given a little more aroma along the way, to this wine that fires on all 12 cylinders. Just be quick, we didn't get much of it!
