Roero Arneis

Those were the days when we went to Vezza d'Alba with Matteo to dine at La Pergola, which at the time was not only the best restaurant in the Roero, but also had the best wine list in Piedmont. Here we often spied together and put the wines of Piedmont's wine elite to the test. And I remember that whenever the Roero Arneis of a particular iconic Piedmontese winemaker came into my glass, Matteo's heart would swell:

"Carlo, there's at least a third Sauvignon Blanc here, this wine, its character, has only the remotest thing to do with Arneis," he used to preach. He must have known, because for me his Roero Arneis was always the most honest, the most full of character, the best, a wine, by the way, that may come as a surprise to you, but actually still tastes excellent even after four or five years of ageing. Today, Matteo's son Giovanni holds the reins. What remains is that Correggia produces the best Roero Arneis! Want to bet?
