Pure nature like all of Pignier's wines, but perhaps even more extreme is this Vin Jaune, yes, Vin Jaune in general. If I try to imagine an archetypal wine, I inevitably end up with a Vin Jaune. This wine gets by without any oenological frippery - ok, gotcha, that's also the case with the other Pignier wines - but somehow it feels more original. Its fine straw-yellow color certainly influences expectations enormously and as soon as the wine's aroma tickles the receptors, everything is confirmed - archetypal, but clean, squeaky clean. Of course, yeast aromas also dominate this wine, but by no means only, fine dried fruit aromas, walnut and spicy aromas - can it be that I smell curry? - complete the multi-layered perfume. Powerful and with fresh, yet perfectly integrated acidity and a hint of tannins, it nestles on the palate, finishing juicy and indescribably mineral, i.e. salty. This is a great Vin Jaune!
