A mini Saint-Joseph. The fruit grows on the borders outside the Saint-Joseph appellation or in young vineyards within the appellation. The vines receive the same attention from the two brothers Jean and Pierre Gonon. Well, perhaps the yields are a little higher, that's certainly the case. But that's not a bad thing. The dark berry scent of the wine is wonderful. In addition to the fruit, wonderful spicy components waft into the nose, reminding me of a great olive tapenade, one made from those wrinkly dark Tanche olives from Le Petit Nice. Wonderful, I can tell you. The wine also has something bacony about it. Pepper? Sure, that too. On the palate, the wine is elegant yet dense, with fine tannins and a pleasant, well-integrated acidity that gives the wine precision and length, balancing it. A great Vin de Pays, in a mini edition!
