Very interesting! Mâcon-Vergisson is actually an exclave because it is completely surrounded by Pouilly-Fuissé. How this came about can only be speculated about today. The important thing is that we were able to get hold of a few bottles of this “super hot” white, which delivers Pouilly-Fuissé qualities for the price of a Mâcon. Cool, isn't it? Like us, Guffens is convinced that only the best grapes make great wines and so he literally breathed down his winemaker friend's neck to make sure that the best fruit could be harvested in the fall. In the cellar, neither Guffens-Heynen nor Verget are experimenting and have largely dispensed with new wooden barrels, relying more on concrete and chrome steel, which we particularly like because it is the great terroir and not the cooper that speaks.
The fragrance of the wine is heavenly; the combination of fruity, spicy and floral notes is indescribable. The attack on the palate is mighty impressive, but not only, because the wine delivers like hell over the entire length, shows a lot of energy, is juicy and ends with a great mineral finish. What a great wine at a very reasonable price. You simply have to try it!
