A variety that you absolutely must discover if you have not already become acquainted with it. We were particularly impressed by Huber's interpretation. In the Valais, our winemakers turn the Savagnin into a wonderfully juicy, mineral and fairly straightforward wine, which is not often found in the south of Switzerland. Yes, that's how we like it! And I am happy to say that Jonas Huber, with his Savagnin, follows this ideal of ours and makes a wine that has a different look and feel from, for example, Clavien's Païen, but basically draws from the same substance.
Huber's Savagnin smells wonderfully of flowers, of blossoms, so wonderfully light and playful, but there is also this hint of apricot fruit that gives the scent some depth. The wine appears elegant, almost aristocratic on the palate, with a wonderful interplay of power and acidity; the energy is quite wonderful. The finish is not only powerfully long, but above all it is so minerally that the wine actually seems salty at the end. All in all, a wonderful interpretation of the Savagnin, which will entertain you differently, but just as well as the best wines of this variety from the Valais or the Jura. And it is variety that makes life worth living!
